Verónica Felício holds a PhD in Biochemistry, specializing in Molecular Genetics, from the University of Lisbon, and a BSc in Marine Biology and Biotechnology from the Polytechnic Institute of Leiria. With over a decade of experience in molecular biology, genetics, and biotechnology, she has developed deep expertise in DNA and RNA extraction, PCR, qPCR, Sanger and Next Generation Sequencing, and bioinformatics analysis.
Throughout her career, Verónica has worked extensively with biological sample handling and genetic characterization, contributing to large-scale academic and industry-led projects, including R&D initiatives with pharmaceutical companies such as Vertex and Gilead. Her background is strengthened by her applied research experience at the BioISI Institute and her current role as an Invited Adjunct Professor at the Polytechnic Institute of Leiria, where she teaches Molecular Genetics, Functional Genomics, and Bioinformatics.
Her recent research activities, including studies on marine organisms and environmental biotechnology, demonstrate a strong alignment with environmental DNA applications. As an integrated member of MARE (Marine and Environmental Sciences Centre), Verónica is actively engaged in marine research, making her particularly well-equipped to contribute to tasks involving eDNA extraction, sequencing, and bioinformatic analysis, supporting the establishment and monitoring of marine protected areas with cutting-edge molecular tools.
