SustainaBite is a youth-focused digital platform designed to make healthy eating more accessible, affordable, and enjoyable. The app brings together smart tools and interactive workshops to help students and young adults plan meals, cook with what they have, learn about nutrition, and save money. With built-in AI, real-time supermarket discounts, and personalised features, SustainaBite empowers users to adopt sustainable, balanced eating habits that support their health and well-being.
Challenge
Many young people struggle to maintain a nutritious diet due to financial limitations, lack of cooking skills, and limited time. The overwhelming volume of nutritional advice, scattered discount information, and reliance on fast or processed food contributes to unhealthy eating patterns. This often leads to poor physical and mental health outcomes, particularly for students living independently for the first time.
Target Groups:
SustainaBite primarily targets university students and young adults who want to eat better but face practical and financial obstacles. It also appeals to newcomers in urban areas who may experience social isolation and are looking for ways to connect through shared activities like cooking and learning.
Solution
The app integrates a range of tools: recipe collections, AI-based meal suggestions using leftover ingredients, daily discounts from local supermarkets, and a comprehensive nutritional guide. It also encourages community engagement through cooking workshops, meal-prep games, and cultural recipe exchanges. Users can track their habits, save favourite recipes, and join events—all from a single platform.
Innovation
SustainaBite combines nutritional education with digital convenience and community building. Its AI functionality helps users make the most of their ingredients, reducing waste and promoting creativity in the kitchen. By gathering discounts from various retailers, it saves users time and money. What makes it truly innovative is its blend of personalisation, education, and social connection—all tailored to young people’s real-world needs.
Impact
The project promotes better physical and mental health by encouraging mindful eating and budgeting. It fosters independence, sustainability, and food literacy, while reducing isolation through shared experiences. With potential to expand across campuses or even be linked to mobility programmes, SustainaBite could contribute meaningfully to SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) by making healthy lifestyles both achievable and appealing.
This student project is developed during the DBCR International Course and DISC Final Conference.
